ChatGPT is OpenAI's chat assistant. You type or talk, and it writes, rewrites, summarises, researches the web, analyses files and generates images. For content creators it is the default drafting tool: blog outlines, social captions, email sequences, video scripts and thumbnail or illustration images from the same conversation.

Models inside

OpenAI's own GPT-5.6 (Luna, Terra, Sol) and GPT-6 Pro for text, GPT Image / ChatGPT Images 2.5 for pictures, and OpenAI voice models. Sora video is no longer available: OpenAI shut the Sora app and ChatGPT video generation on 26 April 2026, and the Sora 2 API was scheduled to be removed on 24 September 2026.

Pricing and rights

As of September 2026: Free ($0) with unlimited everyday chat on GPT-5.6 Luna and separate limits on images, uploads, voice and analysis. Go costs $8/month in the US and raises those limits 10x. Plus is $20/month and unlocks GPT-5.6 Sol. Pro starts at $100/month; the $200 Pro 20x tier was temporarily closed to new sign-ups on 10 September 2026. Business and Enterprise are priced per seat. OpenAI's pricing and terms pages blocked automated reading for this check; OpenAI's terms have long assigned output ownership to the user, but confirm the current Terms of Use before relying on commercial use, and check outputs for accuracy and third-party rights.

Who it is for

Solo creators, marketers and small teams who want one assistant for writing, ideation and quick images rather than several single-purpose tools.

Verdict

ChatGPT remains the broadest all-round content assistant, and the Go tier makes it cheap to lift free limits. The main drawbacks are opaque usage caps, the weaker model on free and Go, and the loss of Sora video, so you will need a separate video tool.
