What it is

Gemini Notebook is Google's research notebook, called NotebookLM until Google renamed it on 16 July 2026. You upload sources (PDFs, docs, sites, videos) and it answers questions with citations to those sources, then turns them into Audio Overviews (podcast-style conversations), Video Overviews, slide decks, infographics, reports, flashcards and mind maps. The old notebooklm.google.com address redirects to notebook.google.com.

Pricing and rights

As of September 2026, limits follow your Google AI plan. Standard (free): 100 notebooks, 50 sources per notebook, 50 chats, 3 Audio and 3 Video Overviews and 10 reports a day, 10 Deep Research runs a month. Plus (Google AI Plus, $4.99/month): 200 notebooks, 100 sources, 6 overviews a day. Pro (Google AI Pro, $19.99/month): 500 notebooks, 300 sources, 20 overviews a day. Ultra ($99.99-$199.99/month): up to 600 sources and 100-200 overviews a day. Google's terms say it won't claim ownership of content you generate; you still need rights to the sources you upload.

Who it is for

Researchers, educators, podcasters and marketers who want to turn existing material into summaries, study aids, audio episodes or explainer videos. It also works well for turning your own back catalogue (blog posts, transcripts, course notes) into companion audio or explainer video, as long as you have the rights to those sources. Output is best treated as a draft or internal study aid rather than a finished, branded episode.

Verdict

Gemini Notebook is the easiest way to turn a pile of documents into grounded summaries and listenable audio. The generated formats are fixed and not very brandable, and the best video features sit behind paid Google AI plans.
