What it is

Gemini is Google DeepMind's family of multimodal models. The top Pro tier is still Gemini 3.1 Pro (stable February 2026); Gemini 3.5 Pro was announced at I/O in May 2026 but had not reached the API by late September. The Flash line moves fast: Gemini 3.8 Flash (2 September 2026) is the newest, after 3.7 Flash (August) and 3.6 Flash (July). Gemini reads text, images, audio and video and writes text.

Automation tools: n8n (Google Gemini Chat Model node), Make (Google Gemini AI app) and Zapier (Google AI Studio / Gemini app). Novelcrafter also supports Gemini.

Pricing and rights

Gemini API (September 2026): 3.8 Flash $0.75 input / $3.75 output per million tokens through 31 December 2026, then $1.50 / $7.50; 3.5 Flash $1.50 / $9; 3.5 Flash-Lite $0.30 / $2.50. The free API tier lets Google use content to improve products; the paid tier does not. Consumer plans: Google AI Plus dropped to $4.99 per month in June 2026, Google AI Pro is $19.99, Ultra costs more.

Creators who work from video, audio and documents, and teams already on Google Workspace.

Verdict

Gemini is the cheapest way into a frontier model family and handles mixed media well. The Pro tier has stalled at 3.1 while Flash versions change monthly, so check which model an app actually runs.
