What is ComfyUI?
What it is
ComfyUI is a free, open-source application from Comfy Org (repo Comfy-Org/ComfyUI, GPL-3.0) in which you build generative pipelines by wiring nodes on a canvas: load a model, encode a prompt, sample, upscale, save. It runs locally as a desktop app or Python install, and Comfy Org also runs Comfy Cloud, a hosted GPU version. Outputs are images, video clips, audio and 3D assets, depending on the nodes and models you load.

Locally you can run any checkpoint ComfyUI supports: Stable Diffusion 1.5/SDXL/3.5, FLUX, Wan, LTX-Video, HunyuanVideo, Qwen-Image, ACE-Step and others. The documented Partner Nodes list covers OpenAI (GPT Image, GPT; Sora 2 was retired on 24 September 2026), Google (Veo 3, Gemini, Nano Banana), Kling, Runway, Luma, MiniMax Hailuo, PixVerse, Vidu, ByteDance Seedream and Seedance, Ideogram, Black Forest Labs FLUX Pro, xAI Grok, Anthropic Claude, ElevenLabs, Tripo and Rodin 3D.
Pricing and rights
The software and ComfyUI Desktop are free; you pay nothing to run open models on your own GPU, and local outputs carry no watermark. Model licences still apply. Comfy Cloud plans start at $20/month (Standard), then Creator $35, Pro $100 and Team $700, each with a monthly credit pool; new users get 5 free runs on real GPUs without a card. Comfy says cloud plans cover commercial rights. Partner Nodes draw from the same credits whether used locally or in the cloud.

Technical creators, studios and developers who want full control over image and video pipelines or want to chain several models in one repeatable workflow.
Verdict
ComfyUI is the most flexible open studio for generative media and the hub most open-source video and image models target first. The price is complexity: the node graph, model downloads, VRAM limits and custom-node dependency conflicts take real time to learn.
