What it is

Claude is Anthropic's family of large language models. The current lineup (September 2026) is Claude Fable 5.1 (released 1 September 2026, for demanding reasoning and long-horizon work), Claude Opus 5.5 (released 22 September 2026, Anthropic's recommended default), Claude Sonnet 5 and Claude Haiku 4.5. All take text and images as input and produce text.

Where you can use it

In Anthropic's own Claude apps (web, desktop, mobile) and Claude Code. Via the API, Claude is on the Claude API, Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud and Microsoft Foundry. Automation tools with Claude support include n8n (Anthropic Chat Model node), Make (Anthropic Claude app) and Zapier (Anthropic Claude app). Consumer plans: Free (Sonnet and Haiku only), Pro at $20 per month or $17 per month billed yearly, Max from $100 per month. Paid plans include Fable, Opus, Sonnet and Haiku.

Who it is for

Long-form writers, editors, researchers and content teams who work with large source documents or need consistent tone across long outputs.

Verdict

Claude's 1M-token context and long outputs suit books, reports and big editing jobs. Fable 5.1 is expensive and rationed on consumer plans, so most writers will work on Opus 5.5 or Sonnet 5, and Claude makes no images.
