What it is

Notion MCP is Notion's official hosted Model Context Protocol server at mcp.notion.com/mcp. It lets an AI client search your workspace and connected sources, read pages and create or update pages and databases, with each user's Notion permissions applied through OAuth. Notion's older open-source local server (makenotion/notion-mcp-server) is no longer maintained.

How to install

In Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http notion https://mcp.notion.com/mcp, then run /mcp and finish the OAuth flow. Notion's guide also covers Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Devin and other clients over HTTP or SSE. Non-interactive (headless) auth is not available yet.

Pricing and rights

The server is free to use with any Notion workspace. As of September 2026 Notion's Free plan covers individuals with limits for teams; Plus costs $10 per member per month on monthly billing.

Who it is for

Writers, editors and content teams who plan calendars, briefs and drafts in Notion and want an assistant to fill and update them. It also suits agencies that keep client briefs and editorial calendars in shared Notion databases.

Verdict

The standard way to connect Notion to agents, with good permission handling. OAuth-only access rules out unattended automations for now, and Notion is a planning tool, not a publisher, so posts still need another step to go live.
