What it is

Sanity MCP is the official hosted Model Context Protocol server for the Sanity content platform, at mcp.sanity.io. It lets an AI client work with documents and datasets in your Sanity projects over Streamable HTTP with OAuth. It replaced Sanity's local open-source server (sanity-io/sanity-mcp-server), which was archived and deprecated on 1 July 2026.

How to install

Add a remote HTTP server pointing at https://mcp.sanity.io (for example, {"sanity": {"url": "https://mcp.sanity.io", "type": "http"}} in your client's MCP config) and sign in with OAuth. Client-specific steps are on mcp.sanity.io.

Pricing and rights

The server is free. As of September 2026 Sanity's Free plan allows up to 20 seats, 2 public datasets and 10k documents; Growth costs $15 per seat per month and adds private datasets and 25k documents.

Who it is for

Teams running headless sites on Sanity who want agents to draft, migrate or tidy structured content. It also helps with bulk jobs such as retagging posts, filling missing SEO fields or migrating documents between schemas, which are tedious by hand in Sanity Studio.

Verdict

Moving to a hosted OAuth server removed token hassle and keeps tools current. Tool-level docs live on Sanity's site rather than in a repo, and anyone still on the archived local server should migrate.
