What it is

The Figma MCP Server is Figma's official remote server at mcp.figma.com/mcp. It gives AI tools structured context from Figma files (layout, variables, screenshots) and, in beta, can write native Figma content such as frames, components and auto layout. How to install

In Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http figma https://mcp.figma.com/mcp, then sign in with your Figma account. VS Code needs GitHub Copilot; other editors that support Streamable HTTP can connect the same way.

Pricing and rights

The server is free to connect, but Free/Starter plans are limited to 6 tool calls a month. Paid Professional, Organization and Enterprise plans with a Dev or Full seat get per-minute limits; as of September 2026 a Professional Dev seat costs $12 per month and a Full seat $16 (monthly billing). Write-to-canvas is free during its beta.

Verdict

Excellent context quality and the new canvas writing make it the reference design server. The 6-calls-a-month limit on free plans means you realistically need a paid seat.
