What it is

Midjourney is an independent lab whose image model is available only through its own web app and Discord. V8 arrived as an alpha on 17 March 2026, V8.1 became the default model on 11 June 2026, and V8.2 was released on 24 July 2026 with better aesthetics and personalization. A V8.2 edit model followed on 27 August 2026.

Only in Midjourney itself: the web app at midjourney.com (with new features first on alpha.midjourney.com) and the Discord bot. Midjourney has no official public API, and we found no third-party app that legitimately offers V8 as a model option.

Pricing and rights

Midjourney is subscription-only with no free trial. Plans reported for 2026 are Basic $10, Standard $30, Pro $60 and Mega $120 per month, with 20% off on annual billing; Midjourney's own plan pages blocked our fetch, so these figures come from a third-party price tracker. The same tracker says all paid plans include commercial use; check Midjourney's terms for the rules that apply to larger companies. We found no Midjourney documentation on C2PA or invisible watermarking.

Verdict

V8.2 keeps Midjourney at the front for aesthetics and adds faster HD output and real editing. It is still a walled garden with no API, no free tier and pending copyright litigation, so it fits art direction better than automated pipelines.
