What it is

Runway MCP is Runway's official remote MCP server, announced on 27 May 2026 and hosted at mcp.runwayml.com/mcp. It connects Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients to Runway's image and video generation, billed against your Runway account instead of a separate API key. Runway also publishes an older, API-key-based server on GitHub (runwayml/runway-api-mcp-server).

The connector is free; generations use your Runway plan's credits. As of September 2026 the free plan has 125 one-time credits with watermarked output; Standard costs $15 per month (monthly billing) for 625 credits and removes the watermark. Model availability is routed by plan.

Video creators and marketers who already pay for Runway and want to storyboard, generate and iterate on clips from an assistant.

Verdict

A straightforward official bridge to strong video models with no API key to manage. Credits run out fast at 625 per month on Standard, and exact tool names and limits are less documented than Runway's API.
