As of September 2026: the free plan gives limited access to the paraphraser (125 words at a time, Standard and Fluency modes), the summarizer (up to about 1,200 words) and grammar checking; the citation generator and AI detector are free. Premium unlocks unlimited access to all writing tools for $19.95/month, $39.95 every 3 months ($13.31/month) or $99.95 a year ($8.33/month). Subscriptions can be paused. QuillBot's pricing pages do not describe output ownership; paraphrasing someone else's work does not remove the need to credit it.

Who it is for

Students, academics and non-native English writers who need to rephrase, shorten or tidy text, and content editors reworking existing drafts. It is also useful for summarising research before you write and for tidying grammar in drafts produced elsewhere. Writers who need original long-form content should pair it with a full assistant, and anyone paraphrasing sources should still cite them.

Verdict

QuillBot is a cheap, focused rewording toolkit with a genuinely useful free tier. It is not built to write original long-form content, the free word cap is tight, and monthly billing is expensive compared with the annual plan. Choose the annual plan if you use it every week.
