You pick a keyword, it analyses the pages that currently rank, and its Content Editor gives you a live score plus target terms, headings, length and structure suggestions while you write. On top of that it offers an AI writer that drafts full articles, and in 2026 it has pushed hard into "AI search" tracking: monitoring how your brand appears in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode and Gemini.

Verdict

Surfer remains one of the most complete on-page optimisation editors, and the AI search tracking is a timely addition. It is expensive once you need integrations or internal linking, and chasing a content score can produce keyword-stuffed, samey copy if you follow it blindly.
