What it is

Captions is an AI video editor made by NOCAP, Inc. (doing business as Captions), whose parent brand is Mirage. It started as an iPhone app for captioning talking-head videos and now edits raw footage automatically: cuts, B-roll, transitions, music and captions. It also makes AI avatars and translates videos. It runs on iOS, Android and the web and says it has about 20 million users.

Paid monthly plans are Max at $24.99 with 500 credits, Frontier 1x at $69.99 with 1,400 credits, Frontier 2x at $139.99 and Frontier 4x at $279.99, plus custom Enterprise. Yearly billing is discounted, but the pricing page does not show the annual prices. The pricing page does not say whether free exports carry a watermark, and third-party reports disagree, so check before relying on the free tier.

Solo creators, coaches and small brands who shoot talking videos on a phone and want them captioned and edited with little manual work.

Verdict

Captions is quick for vertical talking-head content and its eye-contact and translation tools work well on a phone. It is less suited to long or multi-camera edits, credits limit the generative features, and the higher tiers are expensive compared with desktop editors.
